Job Summary

The Infrastructure Administrator is responsible for the daily administration of the Studio’s Linux-based server, storage, and security infrastructure, and production network. The successful candidate is comfortable working as a member of a large, diverse technical team that has daily interactions with the Studio’s software engineers and digital artists.

The Systems department staff contributes their expertise to a wide range of maintenance, integration, optimization, and problem resolution tasks. The Infrastructure Administrator receives direction from the Technical Leads and the Head of Systems, and works closely with the Systems department staff on customer support, project assignments and operational priorities.


  • Linux server administration and maintenance.

  • Production and Archive storage administration, including file system access, and quotas.

  • Data backup and restore, including tape library administration.

  • Network switch maintenance.

  • Security administration, including firewall configuration.

  • Infrastructure Health checks and reports.

  • Data center maintenance tasks.

  • Special projects and other duties as required.


The successful Infrastructure Administrator candidate will have a 2-5 years of Linux administration experience with infrastructure technologies. Experience with animation, film or television production systems is a plus.


  • Experience with Red Hat or CentOS Linux administration, including the command line and scripting, is required. Admistration experience with MacOS and Windows is a plus.

  • NFS network attached storage administration. Experience with Isilon and NetApp is a plus.

  • Data backup and restoration administration. Experience with Networker and tape libraries is a plus.

  • Programming languages, including Unix shell scripting, Python, or Go.

  • Working knowledge of network technologies and services including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.

  • Virtualization technologies, including VM and Docker.

  • Data center operations.

Skills and Abilities

  • A proven technical aptitude, indicated on resume and supported by technical references, to deliver comprehensive infrastructure support in a production environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple projects. 

  • Thorough record keeping and documentation including technical documentation of procedures; documenting code; inventory, project, task, and time tracking.

  • Ability to relate to and communicate with all levels of employees.

  • Process oriented, but flexible around business needs.

  • Serve as a representative of Blue Sky Studios, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, teamwork and discretion in all interactions with other members of the Studio.


  • College degree in computer science or the equivalent infrastructure administration experience in a university, business or production environment.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands

  • The Systems department provides 24/7 support for some production critical systems. Flexible working hours are required, including occasional early mornings, late evenings and weekends. 

  • Some systems maintenance is scheduled for early morning, evening or weekend hours.

  • Walking, bending, sitting and lifting up to 50lbs is required on a regular basis.

  • Office working environment.
