JOB DESCRIPTION

The Woodlands Network Center in The Woodlands, TX is searching for a Application Developer II to join their Systems Application team. The incumbent will assist in gathering information, following up and reporting on projects. The position is responsible for all phases of application development including: analysis, design, implementation (which includes coding, testing, and debugging), and maintenance for FNC - The Woodlands’ applications. This also includes creating and maintaining documentation and adhering to programming standards. The incumbent will process various ad hoc queries and special projects for end users.

Additionally, the incumbent will work in a 24/7 engineering and operations environment. They must be flexible with work schedule and may be required to work non-standard work hours as well as weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions:

Software Development & Design

  • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, documents, and supports application consistent with established specifications, business requirements, and department standards
  • Develops applications from inception through the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and modifies existing applications
  • Works with both front and back end technologies - utilizes common development tools (IDE + source control)
  • Designs, implements, and maintains databases in Microsoft SQL Server including tables and stored procedures
  • Launches applications to multiple environments, including production
  • Participates in selecting the technical architecture of assigned projects with feedback from senior team members

Documentation

  • Regularly ensures status of projects are up-to-date
  • Creates and updates project requirements and documentation including requirements, workflow, and business cases - produces time estimates based on requirements and supporting documentation
  • Generates launch procedures and change control documentation and assists in generating user training and documentation for applications

Maintenance & Support

  • Provides support to assigned production systems and responds to end-user questions and issues

Other Duties

  • Analyzes existing workflows and suggest potential improvements
  • Collaborates with team members and project stakeholders on applications - presents and demos applications to end-users, stakeholders, and management team when necessary
  • Helps develop specification, program, and documentation standards
  • Acts as a key contributor on projects - drives a project from a technical perspective and independently resolves issues
  • Stays up-to-date on development tools, programming techniques, and technologies

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and/or Engineering is preferred
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in programming analysis or a related function
  • Previous experience with the .NET Framework, web development, and relational databases is required
  • Experience with group projects and direct contact with end users
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required in working effectively with a wide range of employees, vendors and clients, orally as well as in writing
  • Capability to work effectively with users in analyzing, testing and documenting applications and composing user guides, context sensitive help, and testing methodologies
  • Ability to analyze and explain in non-technical terms programming logic and construction
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary
  • This position requires someone who is flexible and can course-correct when needed as well as possesses a strong sense of ownership and commitment

Strong working knowledge of the following applications and technologies is preferred:

  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2016 and above
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and above
  • Microsoft Team Foundation Server or Visual Studio Team Services
  • .NET Framework and Core - C#, ASP.NET, MVC
  • Web Browsers + Technology – HTML, CSS, JavaScript or JavaScript frameworks, JSON, Cross Browser Testing
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure fundamentals
  • Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)
  • Microsoft Office Suite – including Visio
