The Photo Coordinator is responsible for quality control and distribution of images for all assigned shows across publicity, marketing, creative and online departments as well as pertinent external clients and users globally.  This position will caption and embed metadata in assets for distribution. This person also handles the strategic photo research and licensing for press, social, and creative for assigned programming. The photo coordinator facilitates the contract and invoicing process for photographers.  This person must have a strong knowledge of Federal copyright laws and photo rights.  This person will assist the Director of Photo Publicity as needed.  The photo coordinator must be able to strategically plan and execute on multiple projects at once.  This position will occasionally require evening work and travel. 


  • Responsible for the quality control, editing, embedding metadata and effective distribution of photo assets for assigned Nat Geo programming. 
  • Conducts photo research and handles licensing of stock imagery.
  • Assists Director, Photo Publicity with strategic projects and provides support as necessary.
  • Handles contract processing and invoicing needs.
  • Coordinates photo contract process for freelance photographers.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications, Photojournalism or related field.
  • Experience with Macintosh computers.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop/LightRoom, Photo Mechanic is required. 
  • Experience with Digital Asset Management Systems and Digital Fusion is preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of digital file types and sizes.
