The Manager of Trip Talent is responsible for recruiting, assigning, training, and managing Experts and Hosts for National Geographic Expeditions. He/she oversees all aspects of Trip Talent preparedness and performance management for his/her talent portfolio, identifies and onboards new trip talent, acquires and develops materials for marketing talent. He/she also develops training resources for expedition staff.


  • Responsibility for National Geographic destination expert assignments across a subset of National Geographic Expeditions, which could include land, small-ship, private-jet, or others, as well as hosts for private-jet trips.  
  • Identify and assign well-qualified destination experts and help prepare hosts as needed across all product lines. Identify well-qualified guest speakers across all product lines. Manage a team of National Geographic brand ambassadors who enhance the brand experience for our travelers. Recruit new expert talent to feature on our trips. Attend NG Magazine story reviews, explorer presentations, NG Live events, the annual Explorers Festival, and more to identify new talent and sustain relationships with current experts, hosts, and speakers. Serve as backup to Trip Talent team members as needed.
  • Develop and implement training and other strategic initiatives to improve expert, host, guest speaker, and expedition staff preparedness and performance. Enhance communications with NG Experts, including onboarding resources and quarterly updates. Share expectations, coach for success, confirm expert talks and trip curriculum plans, and provide evaluation feedback and recommendations for improvement.
  • Build a growing and continuously improving pool of experts and other brand ambassadors that contributes to delivery of the highest-quality travel experience.
  • Enhance the brand identity and quality of our trips by soliciting expert and host itinerary suggestions and feedback for trip improvement. Find opportunities to deepen the NG relationships of NGE talent across NGP media and live events and NGS grant-making initiatives.
  • Support National Geographic Expeditions marketing efforts by showcasing our Expert talent as a key differentiator, acquiring and developing materials for marketing talent, and updating information for his/her portfolio.


  • At least 5 years of experience in the travel industry, partners relations and management, and/or staffing and training.
  • Intimate familiarity with National Geographic Society, National Geographic Partners, and/or National Geographic Expeditions highly preferred. Experience with educational travel a plus.
  • English, excellent written and oral communication skills essential, interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to create and manage basic databases and tracking systems, and work with quantitative performance data.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Keynote or Photoshop experience a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, including the ability to provide direct and honest feedback, and work with diverse constituencies.
  • Sociable and excellent at interacting with people.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Focused on quality and detail oriented.
  • Creative problem solver with an ability to anticipate challenges.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team.
